Garbage! Don’t people just love to talk about garbage? The Board of Supervisors (BOS) had a “Long Term Planning Workshop” on this very thing. Benton Crossing landfill must be closed come 2023 as the lease expires. The BOS are now starting to have the discussion on what comes next. Keep our garbage in the County or ship it out? Require mandatory curbside pickup or not? These are only some of the questions that need to be answered. As 2023 is not that far off, work must start on this very important topic. Do you have any thoughts, opinions, or questions? Please email me at

Due to recent retirements & departures by 14 employees, the BOS approved the transfer of ~$304,000 from the Contingencies account to the General Fund to pay for accrued sick, vacation and comp time. Leaving only ~$25,000 in contingencies for the remainder of the fiscal year.

The BOS decided not to implement a Mono County Plastic Bag Ban Ordinance, seeing that the public will be voting on a statewide ban in November. If the statewide ban is not passed, then the County will readdress the issue afterwards. Stay tuned!

Mark your calendar! The BOS will hear the report created by the EMS Ad Hoc Committee regarding the Paramedics on Tuesday March 8th in Bridgeport. After 6+ months of meetings consisting of education, idea planning and such, the committee will present their ideas to the BOS. As always, I will support modifications to the program as long as existing served communities continue to be served at their present levels into the future!
