May 2015 - Sierra Scoop Column

Are you looking to reduce your energy usage? Do you have old toilets, windows, insulation, heating and cooling systems? Are you aware of Mono County’s PACE (Property Assessed Clean Energy) program? The PACE program provides private funding for energy efficiency and renewable energy upgrades to Residential and Commercial property owners. This funding is secured by the property and collected as an assessment on the property tax bill. The unique aspect of this type of funding is that it is not based on household income or FICO scores; it is primarily based on property equity.

There are more than 900,000 products approved through the PACE Program. Some of the eligible products include: Solar Panels, Geothermal Heating and Cooling, Whole House Heating and Cooling (HVAC) Systems, Window and Glass Doors, Insulation, Tankless Water Heater and SO much more.

To find out more about this exciting program, please visit the County’s webpage at

Thank you to everyone that attended my meeting regarding the County’s Budget and the EMS program. As I stated at this meeting, the EMS Ad Hoc Committee is being organized to look into creating a fiscally sound, sustainable, County-wide EMS program. For the latest information, please visit for more information. Public participation is important and I’ll do my best to keep the website up to date. If you have any ideas on how to create a fiscally sound, sustainable, County-wide EMS program please pass on your ideas.

On April 4th, the Antelope Valley Lions Club held their annual Cow Pasture Golf Tournament at the Giogri Ranch in Topaz. There were about 90 golfers on the course that braved the wind for most of the day. Of course, the Ribs and Chicken were finger licking great as well as all of the other side dishes! If you have not participated in this event (no prior golf experience is really needed!) before, then mark your calendar for next year’s event. The Cow pasture golf tournament, is always on the first Saturday in April. See you are next year’s event!

Construction on the long planned Mountain Gate Park has been under way for some time. The planned completion is early May (if not sooner). The Northern Mono Chamber along with the Antelope Valley Lions Club and AV RPAC is planning a ribbon cutting and dedication ceremony for the Mountain Gate Park project in Walker on Saturday May 23rd at 11 am. Come on out for a great day of celebration of food, music and fun!

The 8th Annual Eastern Sierra ATV & UTV Jamboree is just about a month away and volunteers are still needed for this great event. Please contact the Northern Mono Chamber of Commerce at 530-208-6078 if you are interested in helping out.
