July 2013 - Sierra Scoop Column

First off I would like to say “Welcome” to Mono County’s newest CAO, Jim Leddy. Jim comes to us from Sonoma County. Jim is young, energetic and most definitely a people-person. Jim will be making his way around the County to visit the various user groups. Please join me in welcoming Jim Leddy to the “Beautiful side of the Sierra”.

The 151st Annual July 4th Bridgeport Parade is just around the corner. The parade starts at 10 AM sharp so make sure you are there early for a great seat. And while you are there, make certain to visit the new School Street plaza located on the west side of the Courthouse.

For the first time this year, Mono County will be enlisting the public into its budget discussions. Our new finance director, Leslie Chapman, will be holding Budget Town Hall meetings in several locations around the County this month. Bridgeport meeting is set for Tuesday July 9th from 6pm – 8pm at the Memorial Hall.  The Antelope Valley’s meeting will be on Thursday July 11th from 6pm – 8pm at the Antelope Valley Community Center in Walker.

And just as a reminder.. Transfer Stations will no longer have summer and winter hours. Walker & Pumice Valley are open Wednesdays and Saturdays 7:30am – 3:30pm. Bridgeport is open Thursdays and Sundays (also Tuesdays May 1 – Sept 30) 7:30am – 3:30pm. Please be aware that the closing time is the time you must be out of the gate so plan on getting there 30 minutes prior to the closing time. Thank you!
