January 2013 - Sierra Scoop Column
HAPPY NEW YEAR! My wife, Mary, and I would like to wish everyone a Happy New Year. May this New Year be filled with hope, joy and prosperity for all.
This past year was challenging for our Country, State and County. While Mono County may be doing better financially than most other Counties in California, it does not mean that we can sit back and rest on our laurels. This coming year will be challenging for Mono County as we deal with issues such as: Solid Waste, lower property taxes (County Revenues), mid-year budgeting and what our future should look like. Mono County needs a clear vision forward and that will be set by this new Board in cooperation with the public. The future of Mono County can be bright but it will take all of us working together to build this new future.
Kicking off this New Year, our County Board of Supervisors will see three new Supervisors sworn in at the Board of Supervisor’s meeting on January 8th. The meeting will be held at the Memorial Hall in Bridgeport and will start at 9 AM. The new Board members will be sworn in and each will have the opportunity to make a short statement. A reception will follow allowing the Board, the Public and County Employees to interact. This morning session and reception is not about the new board, it is about all of us, the Public, the County employees, and the Board, starting fresh and working together for the betterment of Mono County. I urge each of you to join us on this day to celebrate a New Dawn for Mono County.
